Unfortunately it looks like this may happen. It would be sparked by increasingly militant responses from bordering groups in Lebanon and Gaza which are fueled by weapons smuggled in from Iran. Israel will hit back in a limited fashion.
At the moment there is a risk that a bank will fail but with the risk to general economy the government will ensure that this does not happen. A run on banks will put the economy into even further jeopardy which they can ill afford at the moment.
It will be a long slow road to recovery but the economy will start to pick up in 2009. Lots of people will still lose their jobs but overall we can expect to see the 'light' at the end of the tunnel.
